From Maitland we headed down the Midas Basin shore to Windsor, where we hoped to find the hockey heritage center, but it was on the move so we were disappointed. But the AAA guide steered us to the Spitfire Arms Pub for lunch, and it was fabulous! We drove from there down to Port Royal and visited the old Acadian trading post there. Crossed the Annapolis River and stopped in at the tidal generating station there; really interesting stuff and well worth the time. We stopped by the Annapolis Royal Historic Gardens and smelled the roses, then proceeded down the road to our next B&B, the Harbourview Inn in Smith's Cove, near Digby, where we had the famous Digby scallops for dinner. Harbourview is highly recommended.
Next day we drove off to Tiverton for whale watching after a short walk to see balancing rock. After the whale watch we headed back to the inn and took a short walk up to Bear River, which has a pretty cool pair of bridges: a now-defunct railroad bridge, and a modern highway bridge, curving together nicely across the mouth of the river. We had dinner back down in Annapolis Royal at a cantonese restaurant called (somewhat politically incorrectly) The New Charlie's Place. Actually quite good once the fact that nothing there will be spicy is acknowledged. After dinner we had ice cream and a short walk around Fort Anne, which were very tasty and very pretty, respectively.
