We're welcoming the better weather as it means that we can do some biking again. Our fist ride was around Lake Quannapowitt in Wakefield. I was on my BikeE recumbent, and Kathy on her Cannondale hybrid. I had lots of trouble keeping up, so we bought me a nice new Trek Pilot 5.2 Flat Bar. Very nice indeed! Now I can keep up. It will also get me back in practice riding a "wedgie" (upright) bicycle. We're hoping to take a biking trip this fall either to France or to Napa Valley.
The first trip on the new bike took us to Breakheart Reservation in Saugus. It's a small, hilly, wooded area on the Wakefield border. Two small lakes (one with swimming beach). Very pretty indeed!
With Ben's new bike, Kathy was feeling a little slower, so we got her a new one, too, very similar to Ben's but with drop handlebars. We've been doing quite a bit of riding this summer, mostly small, local trips. Ben took a nice ride around the lakes/ponds in Lynnfield. We have taken a couple of longer trips, including one around the perimeter of Cape Ann (about 23 miles), including Gloucester, Rockport & Annisquam.
Kathy and Ben did a couple of other 20 mile rides late in August. A repeat of Ben's Lynfield lakes trip, and an exploration of the routes to Kathy's work from the new apartment. On the latter we chanced to pass Flying change Stables, where Ariana and Ross had taken riding lessons so long ago. We had forgotten its location entirely, but there it was.
